---A PLC is a structure for continual growth and development, in collaboration with colleagues. In a PLC, educators can talk about best practices, share data, and plan for innovations surrounding areas they believe can be improved in a practice they share.--- Professional Learning Standard: RESOURCES
Resources refers to the money, time, material and technology that is required to develop professionally. Considerations must also be given to how these resources would be prioritized. As a Youth Services librarian, these behaviors will be exemplified through me handling the budget to bring in programs like storytime, museum personnel for outreach programs, and other in-house events and programs. Both time and materials would be seen in the planning phases of programs: how long will this session last and what will I need in order to implement the program? Additionally, the Resources standard will be shown in the technology I make available to my young patrons; 3D printers, computers, SMART Boards and more are all resources that I will need to align, prioritize and monitor. I will likely have to prioritize materials available or what programs are offered, based on budget and funding availability. Adopting the behaviors depicted in this standard will help me grow as a professional through continually challenging myself to obtain, align, prioritize and monitor library resources for my young patrons. In doing this, I will likely establish a network of other professionals both in my community and in my career field with whom I can collaborate or exchange resources. My own professional development will be consistently expanded through my efforts since I will need to learn how to use any new technology myself, make networking connections to other community resources, and ensure that I am able to maintain time and material budgets and structures. American Library Association’s “American Libraries Live” page. This is updated frequently with links to webcasts covering a very broad spectrum of issues and topics that are common for librarians. It is a place where library workers can engage in interactive discussions and collaborate. A recent webcast addressed costs of audiobooks. This is a common collection development and budget issue. Having access to these webcasts and the ability to engage in these conversations will give me insight into my future career and prepare me for challenges I may face there.
